Haemostasis

Haemostasis

Haemostasis is a complex process that prevents or terminates blood loss from a disrupted intravascular space, provides a fibrin network for tissue repair, and ultimately, removes the fibrin when it is no longer needed.

In surgery, the success of a procedure can often depend upon a surgeon's ability to efficiently and effectively control blood loss.  In situations where the control of bleeding by standard surgical techniques is ineffective or impractical, our ETHICON Biosurgery business offers a variety of haemostatic products including proprietary oxidized regenerated cellulose haemostats, absorbable gelatin powder and sponges, a haemostatic matrix, topical human thrombin, a human fibrin sealant, and an easy and ready to-use applicator to deliver  haemostatic agents to bleeding sites.

ETHICON supplies a wide range of high-performing needles and absorbable and nonabsorbable sutures available in a variety of materials including polyester fiber, silk, and nylon. Antibacterial ETHICON PLUS Sutures are also available and a sterile, liquid topical skin adhesive for surgical incisions.
