C-Section

C-section

C-sections in the United States have dramatically increased in recent years. Since 1996, C-section deliveries have increased by 50%1 and as of 2005, over 30% of all deliveries in the US were C-sections. Because a C-section is a major surgery that has serious risks, these numbers have important implications for both you and your patients. Bacterial infections, injury to surrounding organs and post surgical adhesions associate with C-sections can lead to serious complications impacting the short and long term recovery of the mother. In addition, scarring can have cosmetic implications for the patient.

Adhesion barriers are a proven method of enhancing good surgical technique in reducing post-surgical adhesions. ETHICON Women’s Health & Urology offers an absorbent adhesion barrier as an adjuvant in open (laparotomy) gynecologic pelvic surgery, including c-sections, for reducing the incidence of postoperative pelvic adhesions after meticulous haemostasis is achieved.

Additionally, ETHICON supplies a wide range of products suitable for c-section including high-performing needles and absorbable and nonabsorbable sutures available in a variety of materials including polyester fiber, silk, and nylon. Antibacterial ETHICON Plus sutures and a sterile, liquid topical skin adhesive for surgical incisions are also available.
