Abnormal Uterine Bleeding

Abnormal uterine bleeding is a broad term that is used to cover all uterine bleeding that is not considered part of a woman's normal menstrual cycle.  Abnormal Uterine Bleeding or AUB, therefore covers:

  • excessive menstrual bleeding,
  • bleeding that occurs outside the normal cycle,
  • and menstrual patterns of reduced frequency.

It has been estimated that approximately one third of all outpatient gynecologic visits are for the evaluation of AUB.  This condition affects about 50% of women worldwide at some stage during their lives.
